Introduction
This website provides research-based information on greenhouse use of plant growth regulators to regulate height of floriculture crops. All of the information presented is from experiments performed at Michigan State University. The objective of many of these experiments was to determine whether a plant growth regulator was effective on a particular species, rather than to identify a recommended rate. For more information on plant growth regulators, please see the collection of PGR articles that are available on our MSU web page for Greenhouse Crop Production Articles.
We hope that this information will help
growers decide which plant growth regulator to use on each species tested. As
with all growth regulators, we recommend that greenhouse growers perform their
own trials on a small scale to determine appropriate rates given the species and
cultivar, desired response, and environmental conditions.
Please select a species from the following categories:
Annual Species
Perennial Species
Acknowledgements
We would like to thank the MSU faculty, research technicians, post docs, and graduate students in floriculture who performed these plant growth regulator experiments and photographed the plant responses. A special thanks to Art Cameron, Beth Fausey, Royal Heins, Dave Joeright, Mike Olrich, Erik Runkle, Dan Tschirhart, and Cathy Whitman. We also thank the generosity of private floriculture companies that financially support MSU floriculture research and the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station.
